Ballymena & Antrim Athletic Club

On a very warm day with just a few tiny drops of rain a number of BAAC men won a clutch of medals.

In the sprints Seamus Agnew M55 was 3^rd in 200m in 29.05 and third in 400m in 68.15. In the same 400m Julian Kennedy , also M55 was 4^th in 70.52. In the 5000m Matt Wray put in his usual gutsy performance and was first M45 in an excellent 16m19.38s.

In the field in the hammer M35 Gareth Moffatt threw 32m50 for 2^nd. In the shot Julian Kennedy was 1^st M55 with 9m14 as also was Ernest Tuff in M70 with 10m89. In Discus Ernest was 1^st M70 with 32m42.In Javelin M55 Frank McCrystal was 1^st M55 with 33m12 and Julian runner up with 31.19.

Finally in High Jump Julian won his division with 1m38.

BAAC’s inaugural HammerFest took place in glorious weather on Thursday 28^th April at Antrim Forum.  With a plentiful supply of hammers four different clubs were represented; Abbey, Mid-Ulster, Shercock & BAAC.  With the heel-toe brigade topping fourteen athletes results were good and five of the athletes scored new pb’s.  Special mention go to Andrew Doyle (Mid-Ulster) and Robert Moffett (BAAC) as both moved closer to achieving international qualification standards.

Many thanks to the coaches for running a great event, looking forward to the same again in 2012.

On Thursday 28th April, Ballymena & Antrim AC will be hosting the first ever HammerFest, a celebration of all things Hammer. For young & old, experienced and novice, anyone can come along and heel-toe a steel ball around their head.
