Weather Training in Lanzerote
Maeve Kyle writes:
Anna
Boyle & Elizabeth McWilliams travelled with their coaches Maeve Kyle & Sean
Kyle to Lanzerote. A 4 hour flight from Dublin, to be greeted by excellent
weather; 25°-30° daytime temperature,
sunny all day except one day, windy, but not horrible wind! The best facilities
I have seen in any training camp, catering for 30 sports, and access to
everything for everyone (only need to pre-book if you are a large group or
team) Plenty of rails for longer runs (2,5 & 8K based on fine basalt
gravel, very good according to Lizzie). Indoor & outdoor weights; fitball,
pilates, stretching classes. Olympic swimming pool, plus several large free
form leisure pools with plenty of sun loungers! Apartments very well equipped,
and very comfortable. A Supermarket, six restaurants, bars, disco & cinema
on site. No town to distract! The village of La Santa is 4km away, with several
more restaurants. Prices very reasonable, a decent dinner for 10 to 12 euros.
Training
was excellent with both girls going very well, with early morning runs,
weights, plyos, track sessions, and pool recovery. Anna had PBs in her 300 time
trials and in her short sprint sessions She looks ready for Indoor competition.
Lizzie showed that she is back to full winter fitness, after her tonsillectomy.
We all had plenty of rest both in the sun and sleeping well, and came back
feeling really good. Lanzarote is a fascinating island, having erupted into its
present form only 170 years ago, and still very hot below the surface. We spent
a half day on a tour of the Fire Mountains National Park, made up entirely of
volcanoes, geysers, lava and craters! Lizzie dropped her handful of gravel -
too hot to hold! We had dinner high in the mountains, cooked on the heat from
subterranean volcanic heat!
Altogether a great
experience, and a super training week.
