Club Captain takes Season’s Honour

Dunloy native Anna Boyle was recently named as the Ballymoney Sports Personality of the Year, the award, supported by the Ballymoney Sports Advisory Committee in association with the Ballymoney & Moyle Times, was presented at a Gala Evening held in Ballymoney Rugby Club on Thursday 25th September.

Anna was nominated for the award along side two other exceptional local sports stars and the awards committee decided that due to the outstanding achievements the three women had achieved in their sports that they were jointly awarded.

In the past season Anna has stepped onto the top step of a Championship podium no less than 8 times, major titles including; British Universities 200m, Irish U23 200m and Northern Ireland 100m & 200m. On the international stage she competed for Ireland in the Europa Cup - Finland, European U23 Championships - Poland and the World Student Games - Korea.

The highlight of the season could possibly be lowering the Northern Ireland senior record over 100m for the first time in May, Anna went on to record new (legal) figures on a further three occasions, the record now stands at 11.71 - with an 11.54 (+3.5) also recorded this year.

The end of season ranking lists have shown Anna to be ranked No. 1 in Northern Ireland, No. 3 in Ireland and in the top 10 in the UK over 100m. Her position in the top 3 in Ireland could prove very valuable with the chances of an Irish Women's 4x100m relay squad being sent to the Athens Olympics next year becoming more and more likely.

Congratulations Anna on your award and many achievements over the past season, keep up the great work and let's hope for great improvements next season!

Annual Club Awards

With the many outstanding performances over this past season it was a very hard task to try and highlight those individuals who have achieved so much this season. This year many of our athletes rose to the many different challenges put to them and tonight The Club is rewarding them for their exceptional performances and contribution they have made to make this Club what it is!

Thank you to Councillor Joe Kernan, Mayor of Ballymena for making tonight's presentations.
